TP-Link Archer AX72 Wi-Fi 6 Router setup guide

This guide provides fast, step-by-step instructions to set up your TP-Link Archer AX72 router using the TP-Link Tether App on your iOS or Android device.

Check the Package and Position the Router

1. Package Contents

Ensure you have the following items in your Monis.rent package:

  • TP-Link Archer AX72 AX5400 Wi-Fi 6 Router
  • LAN Cable
  • Power Cord S
  • Product Packaging

2. Router Overview

The router’s default Wi-Fi Name (SSID) and Wireless Password are printed on the label located at the bottom of the router. You will need this information for the initial wireless connection.

3. Optimal Positioning

For the best Wi-Fi coverage and performance:

  • Place the router in a central location in the area you need coverage, preferably on a desktop or shelf.
  • Keep the router away from strong electromagnetic interference, such as Bluetooth devices, cordless phones, and microwave ovens.
  • Ensure the six external antennas are positioned vertically.

Hardware Connection

Follow these steps to correctly connect the router to your internet source (Modem/Ethernet Wall Outlet).

  1. Turn Off the Modem (If applicable): If you are using a separate DSL/Cable/Satellite modem, turn it off and remove the backup battery if it has one.
  2. Connect the Modem to the Router: Use the provided Ethernet cable to connect your powered-off modem to the router’s WAN port (the port usually marked with a different color, like blue).
    • Note: If your internet comes directly from an Ethernet outlet in the wall, connect the cable from the wall directly to the router's WAN port.
  1. Power On the Modem: Turn on your modem first, and wait approximately 2 minutes for it to restart and stabilize.
  2. Power On the Router: Connect the power adapter to the router’s Power Port, and then press the Power On/Off Button.
  3. Check the LED Status: Wait for the router to start up. The following LEDs should become Solid On (Green/White):
    • Power LED.
    • 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wireless LEDs.
    • Internet LED (A solid Green LED indicates successful connection to the internet service). If it is Orange, the port is connected but the internet service is not yet available.

The fastest way to configure your router is by using the TP-Link Tether app, which works identically on both iOS (iPhone/iPad) and Android devices.

Step A: Download and Connect

  1. Download the App: Go to the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and search for "TP-Link Tether". Download and install the application.
  2. Connect to the Default Network: On your smartphone or tablet, go to your Wi-Fi Settings, and connect to the default network names (SSIDs) printed on the router’s bottom label (e.g., TP-Link_XXXX or TP-Link_XXXX_5G). Use the default password also printed on the label.
  3. Launch Tether: Open the Tether app.

Step B: Quick Setup

  1. Log In/Create Account: The app will prompt you to log in with your TP-Link ID. If you do not have one, tap "Sign Up" and create one (an email is required).
    • Note: This TP-Link ID is crucial for remote management and features like HomeShield.
  1. Select Your Device: Tap the "+" button in the app and select Wireless Router > Standard Routers.
  2. Follow the Prompts: The Tether app will automatically detect your router and guide you through the remaining steps:
    • Creating a secure Admin Password for the router management.
    • Selecting your Internet Connection Type (e.g., Dynamic IP, PPPoE).
    • Setting up your new, customized Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID) and Password (this will replace the default names on the sticker).
  1. Finish Setup: Once finished, the app will confirm that the setup is complete and the router is connected to the internet.

Connecting Your Devices & Key Features

1. Connecting Client Devices

After setup, disconnect from the old default network and connect all your phones, laptops, and smart devices to the new custom Wi-Fi Name (SSID) and Password you just created in the Tether app.

Your Archer AX72 includes TP-Link HomeShield, which provides advanced security features:

  • Network Security: Protects your connected devices from cyberattacks.
  • Parental Controls: Allows you to manage screen time and filter inappropriate content for children.
  • Network Analysis & Optimization (QoS): Prioritizes specific devices for better performance.
    • To manage HomeShield features, open the Tether App and tap the HomeShield tab.

3. USB 3.0 Sharing (Optional)

The USB 3.0 Port on the side panel can be used to connect a flash drive or external hard drive.

  • Access Locally: You can share files, photos, or media from the connected drive with all devices on your local Wi-Fi network.
  • Access Remotely: If you need to access files when you are away from the rental location, you must configure Remote Access via the router's web management page.

Troubleshooting & Support

Issue

Recommended Action

Cannot access the internet

Reboot Cycle: Power off the Modem, then the Router. Wait 1 minute. Power on the Modem, wait 2 minutes (until the Internet light is solid). Power on the Router. Check WAN Port: Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely plugged into the blue WAN port of the router.

Forgot the Router's Admin Password

This is the password you created to log into the Tether App or tplinkwifi.net. If you are logged into the Tether App with your TP-Link ID, you may be able to reset the password through the app. Alternatively, press and hold the Reset button on the back panel for about 6 seconds until the Power LED blinks to restore factory defaults. Note: You will have to reconfigure the router entirely.

Cannot Connect to Wi-Fi

Ensure you are using the correct, current Wi-Fi Password (the one you customized, not the default one on the sticker).

Need Advanced Settings

For advanced settings (like Guest Network, VPN, or IPTV/VLAN), log in to the web interface by visiting http://tplinkwifi.net from a device connected to the network.
